“Take action, inspire change, make every day a Mandela Day” – Nelson Mandela Foundation

Every year we do something extraordinary to make a difference on Mandela Day. Over the past two years, we have broken ‘World Records’, which have raised food and funds to alleviate hunger and provided massive awareness around the plight of people in our country.

This year, we aim is to raise over R3 million to alleviate hunger and provide food relief to people in poverty-stricken communities, whilst addressing more sustainable solutions around food security.

We will be attempting to break the World Record for “THE LARGEST FOOD CAN MOSAIC”, by creating a giant mosaic of Nelson Mandela at the CTICC in Cape Town, and the South African Flag at Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg.

The attempts will be held in two cities and aims to provide multiple ways for you to volunteer your 67 minutes for Mandela Day on Sunday 17 (CPT only) and Monday 18 July 2022.

We are encouraging families and corporate companies to come out to have fun doing good, for good and in the spirit of Mandela Day, help us take a message of #AlleviateHunger to the world.

How do we break the World Record for the ‘LARGEST FOOD CAN MOSAIC’?

We will use food cans in primary colours to form the mosaic, and volunteers doing their 67-minutes will be guided to help us place cans and create the image using a ‘paint-by-numbers’ style technique.

To smash the records, we need 100 000 food cans across two cities, so the challenge is on!  We need you to buy food can tickets at R100 for five food cans and or R150 for 67-minute volunteer time slots, via Webtickets.co.za.

Group bookings for volunteer slots and or bulk food can sales are facilitated by our team at Ladles of Love by emailing: info@ladlesoflove.org.za with your request or call Dushina Arran on 083 776 8050.

The funds from all donations will provide nutritious meals to people in need and expand our Feed the Soil sustainability programme – visit Ladlesoflove.org.za/feed-the-soil for more details.

We fully support the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s 2022 call to action urging people to be more mindful to ”Do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are’ by participating in sustainable interventions with lasting impact.
