You braved the weather, traffic and countless challenges – yet you showed up! Not a few good people, but amazingly, well over twelve thousand. Across South Africa and abroad, our rally cry was heard. People came together as ‘human beings’ to make items for the little children in our country’s poorest communities, who need our help.
The life and legacy of Mandela provides us with principles and a guiding light, while his words of wisdom inspire us to be better people. What we experience every Mandela Day, makes it easy to understand why Madiba exuded such happiness. Everyone volunteering embraced the spirit of Ubuntu, experienced the joy of giving, and felt the Madiba magic at play all day.
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.” Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
This is our 10th Mandela Day event and this year against all odds, we broke our own Ubuntu World Record! Yet our work is far from done, it’s time for us to honour and empower the women in our communities in Women’s Month who raise the ‘village’ children. Without them, the items you made would never reach the children. These women, with your items, will make every day a Mandela Day for their little ones.
To everyone who made Mandela Day possible, from all of us at Ladles of Love and our 6,000 little children – We say a heartfelt thank you and trust we made giving feel great.
