Dear Ladles Supporter

Last Friday we staged our first Heroes of Hope Excellence Awards and what an incredible event it was.  Kindly hosted by the Southern Sun Garden Court Nelson Mandela Boulevard, 130 preschool principals gathered to be recognised and rewarded for the extraordinary work they are doing implementing our nutrition programme.

It is hard to describe the feelings in the room, as the principals took us on an emotional roller coaster ride by volunteering to share their stories.

These are women who started shelters to protect a few children from abuse, neglect and hunger, which due to the dire situation and need in the impoverished areas they live, rapidly expanded to become preschools.

Every story was different and many of the women themselves had been victims of violent crime or suffered the tragic loss of a child and this triggered their need to create a place of safety and learning.

What was staggering is how in the face of adversity these brave women have hope, gratitude and joy.   They see first-hand the impact good nutrition has on their children and teachers – all they ask of us is to grow our territory and touch more lives by uplifting women and children in South Africa.

It gives us great pleasure to introduce you to our women warriors, the pioneering principals who have excelled and deserve the recognition, reward and applause.
