In a world shaken by conflict and uncertainty, our hearts are drawn to the little ones whose lives are shaped by forces far beyond their control. Children should be free to learn, play and grow, yet too many face the invisible scars of fear, trauma and instability created by decisions made by adults. Their earliest experiences influence who they become, and when those experiences are defined by hunger or violence, the impact lasts a lifetime.

At Ladles of Love, we see this truth every day in the communities we serve. Where violence and poverty are part of daily life, children carry emotional burdens far too heavy for small shoulders. This is why we focus our energy on nourishing, nurturing and caring for the little ones who are so often overlooked when survival becomes the priority.

Survival starts with food.

It may sound simple, yet the daily act of providing nutritious meals is profoundly life changing. By consistently serving healthy food to small children at preschools, we do more than alleviate hunger. We help little ones feel safe, cared for and seen. Good nutrition supports healthy bodies and healthy minds. It gives children the energy to participate, the ability to concentrate and the sense of being held by a community that believes in them.

There is another truth we must acknowledge. When times are hard, women eat last. Global research confirms this and we witness it daily in the communities we serve. Teachers and support staff at preschools arrive hungry. One cannot teach with energy or care for children on an empty stomach. When we understood the magnitude of this issue, we expanded our programme to include daily meals for all preschool staff. Within weeks, principals reported fuller classrooms, livelier lessons and the delightful sound of laughter echoing through corridors once again.

Today we are humbled to be nourishing children and teachers across three provinces, reaching 13,500 little ones and the adults who guide them. The impact is undeniable and the need continues to grow. Our vision is bold because the children deserve nothing less. By the end of 2026, we aim to support 20,000 children and their teachers across five provinces, strengthening the foundations of learning and wellbeing for thousands more.

We stand in solidarity with every organisation offering food relief during these uncertain and often violent times. In the true spirit of ubuntu, we see you. We honour your resilience and dedication. We share in your hope and your heartbreak. And we send strength as you continue to nourish bodies and uplift lives with dignity, love and respect.

Together we are proving that daily nourishment is an act of love. An act of justice. An act that shapes a brighter future for every child we reach.

With immense gratitude,
