It is just over a week since schools re-opened and every day we listen to sad stories dominate the news, as parents struggle with too few schools to accommodate learners.   Friday 24th January is the International Day of Education and a stark reminder to the ‘powers that be’ in our country that the right to education is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The fact is, education is key to sustainable development and the United Nations Sustainability Development Goal 4Quality Education’ aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” by 2030. In South Africa this sounds far-fetched.

At Ladles of Love we take education seriously, simply because education offers children a ladder out of poverty and a path to a promising future.

It should be an easy solution but it is layered with complexities, for example – educating malnourished children means poor results and devastating long-term effects.  So it’s vital that quality education and nutrition go hand in hand.

This is why we are putting all our energy into our Feed the Future campaign, aimed at highlighting the plight of small children in poverty-stricken communities of our country. We believe that by creating awareness around ‘education supported by nutrition’ we can generate the funds we need to feed the growing number of small children in our preschool nutrition programme.

Last week, our Nourish Our Children Programme preschool’s principals reported a poor turnout and this week they are inundated, with record attendance.
To support the principals and their cooks, we have arranged a‘nutrition training day’ on Saturday at our Warehouse and here we intend to educate, motivate and equip our preschool leaders with what they need to ensure two delicious, nutritious meals are served daily with variety and why.

We received a few calls last week from people saying they love our work and asking how they can help us.  It is simple – we need funding to feed children. ❤️

Help us make the circle of giving bigger and together create a brighter and better world for all. 🇿🇦
