Dear Ladles Supporter,
We were touched deeply by the acceptance speeches from our six award winning principals at the Heroes of Hope Awards. Their words stayed with us, so we decided to visit each principal and share with you the stories behind their work.
Our first visit was to Berenice Johnson, principal of Angels Daycare Preschool in Delft. From a dedicated space in her home, she has created a safe and loving place for 30 little bundles of joy.
The why behind Angels Daycare
Berenice founded Angels Daycare in September 2018, inspired by her own child with special needs who sadly passed away. With years of experience at Oasis Special School and Alfa School for Learners with Autism, she opened an ECD centre rooted in love, care and inclusion.
Her why is simple and powerful:
“I want to make a difference in my community and ensure that every child who graduates from Angels Daycare has the opportunity to become whoever they dream of becoming.”
After a warm welcome, we spoke about her First Prize in the Digital Innovation and Technology category, Berenice shared that her husband Adrian’s faithful help with reporting the children’s progress made the award possible.
She spoke with deep gratitude for the family, staff and quiet circle of support behind her centre.
For Berenice, Angels Daycare is more than a preschool. It is a place where children are nurtured, protected and encouraged to become who they dream of being.
A dream on a vision board
During our visit, Berenice’s vision board stayed with us. On it was her childhood dream of teaching Grade R at her own ECD centre on school premises, a dream now becoming real one child at a time.
Having lost her parents young, Berenice built a life around caring for others. Today, she is known as a woman of strength in her church and community.
And there is still so much more to come
Adrian dreams of welcoming 100 more children into their care, where they can be protected, nourished and educated with love.
There is still so much for Berenice and Angels Daycare to achieve, and we are grateful to walk this journey alongside them. Through delivering Ladles of Love’s nutrition programme with your support, we are changing lives and helping her bold dreams take root and grow.
With every new monthly donor, our circle of preschools gets bigger and the impact on the children greater. For a child to thrive, there can be no greater gift, than healthy food and hope.
