Dear Ladles Supporter

Every child deserves the chance to grow, learn and reach their full potential. Yet, for millions even a nutritious meal is uncertain. This World Food Day, we’re reminded that hunger takes more than food away – it takes opportunities, potential and hope for a brighter future.

According to the United Nations’ State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2026 report, an estimated 645 million people globally faced hunger in 2025, with one in five people in Africa affected. In South Africa, 12% of households experienced hunger – the highest level since 2010, according to the South African Food Security Index 2026.

As founder of Ladles of Love, I believe that addressing hunger means looking beyond today’s meal and asking what it makes possible for tomorrow. Because before a child can learn, they need to concentrate. Before they can concentrate, they need energy. And before they have energy, they need nutrition.

A hungry child can still sit in a classroom. A hungry child can still appear in the attendance register. But a hungry child is carrying a burden that no child should have to carry. This is why I believe nutrition is not separate from education. It is the foundation upon which education stands. If we want a stronger economy, a more capable workforce and thriving communities, we need to start with the conditions that allow children to grow physically, mentally, emotionally and academically. When we nourish a child, we are not simply providing food. We are investing in their ability to become everything they are capable of becoming.

This is what it means to innovate today and nourish tomorrow. Innovation is not always about finding something entirely new. Sometimes, it means rethinking how we approach a challenge we have faced for generations. It means recognising that feeding a child is not simply an act of kindness, but an investment in their development, their education and their future. World Food Day is a reminder that the future we hope to build starts with the choices we make today. When we nourish children now, we help create a tomorrow where more of them have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

On World Food Day, would you consider making a meaningful difference in a child’s life and gift them healthy daily meals. You would be joining our growing group of monthly donors, who are determined to create a brighter future for all children in South Africa.

Support our programme Nourish Our Children and help us make a real impact with nutrition.

With gratitude and appreciation,

Danny and the Ladles of Love team.
