Dear Ladles Supporter
Around the world, communities are facing increasingly severe floods, droughts, and extreme weather events. While these challenges may seem disconnected from our kitchen scraps, the truth is they are closely linked.
Healthy soils act like giant sponges, absorbing rainfall during storms and retaining moisture during dry periods. Compost plays a critical role in building these resilient soils.
Every bucket of food waste collected by Feed the Soil helps create compost that strengthens soil health and supports climate resilience from the ground up.
Today we celebrate World Environment Day, an annual reminder that environmental action does not only happen in boardrooms, laboratories, or government offices.
It happens in kitchens.
It happens in gardens.
It happens when a banana peel is composted instead of sent to landfill.
At Feed the Soil, we witness daily how small actions create meaningful environmental impact. Every kilogram of organic waste diverted from landfill reduces methane emissions and helps build healthier soils for future generations.
Our Impact in May
Thanks to the support of our members, partners, and community, during May we:
🌱 Diverted 9.6 tonnes of food waste from landfill
🌱 Continued transforming food scraps into nutrient-rich compost that supports healthier soils and local food production
Every bucket collected is another step towards a more circular and regenerative future. ♻️
Growing Our Community
We are excited to announce the launch of our new Friday Pop-Up Market at the Community Outdoor Gym in Rondebosch, located between Erin Road and Campground Road.
You can find us there every Friday from 07h30 to 11h30.
Whether you are dropping off food waste, shopping for fresh produce, or simply stopping by for a chat, we would love to see you there. 💚
Building a more sustainable future is about more than diverting waste. It is about creating connections, sharing knowledge, and growing a community that cares about the health of our environment.
We cannot wait to see this space grow and welcome more people into the Feed the Soil family.
Thank you for being part of the journey and for helping us turn waste into a resource, one bucket at a time.
Stay grounded,
Micaela and the Feed the Soil team 💚
