We all need role models in our lives and often we feel despondent because our leaders are not stepping up to the plate.   It’s tough for us being an NPO on the ground, especially when we witness the social injustices affecting small children in our underserved communities.

Then out of the blue you receive a call that changes things up in the most profound way. A call that reignites hope, instils faith and makes you believe in good,  just like you did as a kid.

To contextualise – our financial struggle is real.  Every day we are juggling finance, cash flow and figuring how to pay the bills to feed over 7,000 little kids at the preschools in our nutrition programme. This is our daily reality.

Picture this scene. We are sitting in our offices stressing about cashflow, and when we hear the most unbelievable news.  The MasterChef winner Chef Seth Shezi has announced we are to be his beneficiary. You can’t help thinking, what does that even mean?  Well yesterday we found out in the most extraordinary way.

We hosted Celebrity MasterChef winner Seth at our Warehouse, where top media, amazing MasterChef judge Zola Nene and generous sponsors Pick n Pay gathered to witness the hand over a cheque valued at R520,000.

Yes you are reading  this right, it is three zeroes on the end.  I don’t think Seth has any idea that he saved the day.

Chef Seth’s money will feed 175 children and their teachers plus carers two healthy meals a day for a whole school year.  The beneficiary principals were overwhelmed when we announced they had been paired with Chef Seth Shezi –  Bulewa of Kids Ministry and Monica of Drie Beerjies could not believe their ears.

And there is more.  Giving money was not enough for Chef Seth – he wanted to contribute in a way that helped all preschool cooks, so he created a recipe for a healthy dish that kids would love.

Seth took the bulk food and veggies we supply preschools weekly and made a meal that’s filled with goodness. Ten little children tasted it yesterday and gave him a big thumbs up and huge smiles.

We ask you to join us in a bigshout to Primedia Studios and Homebrew Films who created the special Celebrity MasterChef South Africa series, sponsored by Pick n Pay.  Simply put, without them this would not have happened.

In the spirit of ubuntu, we thank every single one of you who has joined our ‘Feed the Future’ drive and committed to sponsoring children, as well as our loyal monthly donors.

You are ALL role models leading the way
We see YOU and thank YOU ❤️

With gratitude and appreciation,
Danny and the team at Ladles of Love ❤️
